Que azar o meu... Ao estacionar o van no coberto para arranjar o bombito eis que aparece outro problema... a alavanca de velocidades  desapareceu! O que? Onde foi parar? Estava aqui ainda agora...
Pois estava deitada no chão do van, tinha-se partido!

Havia sinais de estar rachado há muito tempo e só estava seguro por um cabelo, então foi melhor que partir agora do que na estrada numa viagem.

Como podem ver na foto, aquela peça grande serve para amortecer as vibrações do motor. Em vez de a alavanca ser uma peça solida é na verdade duas peças que estão unidas por um "amortecedor" de borracha vulcanizada para evitar que a alavanca pareça uma maquina de massagens vibratórias quando estás a mudar de mudança.

Just my luck... As I went to park the van in the shed to fix the brake cylinder, another problem pops up... the gear lever disappeared! What? Were did it go? It was here a minute ago...
It was laying on the floor of the van, it had broken off!

There were signs of it being cracked and it was only holding on by a hair, so I guess it was better that it broke now instead of on the road.

As you can see in the pic, that big round thing is a vibration dampener, so instead of the gear shifter being one solid piece it's actually two parts that are connected by a vulcanized rubber dampener so that the long lever won't shake the hell out of your arm when your shifting gears.
