Ebay: Barn Find Bedford CF2 - UK

Here is an interesting "barn find" on ebay UK. It's a '87 CF2, the last year of manufacturer, and has some rare features like an automatic transmission and according to the seller a 6 cylinder engine. Those engines were available for Australia but I never heard of them used in the UK from the factory.
This van needs a serious restoration, you can see rust on the back doors and other spots but overall it doesn't look too bad.

Ebay: Bedford CF2 "sleeper" - UK

Those recessed fog lights in the front bumper are a nice touch I thought I had seen before. I posted a couple of photos of this CF2 last year but now I found out that this van is what you call a "sleeper" and I'm not talking about a bed in the back... Hiding under this stock looking CF2 is a Rover 4.0L V8 engine with some upgrades. Now is your chance to own it, check the ebay link below.

"Here we have a 1986 Bedford CF panel van with modified features, This listing is for the van as is and will come with all as described, Please read what this van has got and had done to it. The van is at the halfway point of being broken or sold as is.

The engine is a 4.0 ltr Rover V8 unit which has been fully rebuilt to fast road spec, some goodies on this engine include, Holley 390cfm carb with vacuum secondary's. Inlet manifold is a Offenhauser Dual plane unit. and the Cam shaft is a Piper Ultimate Road unit with vernier gear set and chain. The exhaust has race spec tubular manifolds, and is a stainless steel system throughout. The Auto transmission is from a Jaguar series 3 and was rebuilt with new stronger internals. BorgWarner 66, allows for perfect cruising around town. And get up and go when needed. The differential is standard, but is noisy. Was going to put a 9" locker in it. The van has been adapted correctly to have this drive-train installed. (Not slap dash like some i've seen). The cooling system has been uprated to cope with the power and a larger rad was installed along with twin Pacet electric cooling fans. The fuel pump is a Facet race red top unit. The instruments in the interior picture are from a series one Jaguar And the speedo and rev counter was sent to speedy cables to be adapted to run with the V8 and the mileage corrected to that of the van prior to engine change.

The van has been modified on the exterior too and its subtle but nice, integral fog lights in the front bumper along with front nudge bar and metal rear bumper. The headlights are the crystal type and look more modern. The van is MOT'd till 20th september 2014 and on the last MOT it had no Advisories.... The van is sorned as it is awaiting a decision on its future. Restore or break for parts... It has the usual rot around all 4 arches and rear panels. And these are the areas needing repairs.

Please bare in mind this van has great potential to live on as they are rare on the streets. But please don't think this is a showroom van you can take to shows straight away... unless you like the rat look ha ha.. The hub caps were new and undented, Rare on their own... This van will come with a load of spares= Lights, switches, fuel tank, rear leaf springs suspension components, front calipers and so much more....

This van still draws attention, people love the sound of its V8 and ask what is it? Younger generation dont know about the CF's. The older guys always say I remember these when I worked for the Gas board and so on.

Any questions will be answered quickly and you can call me, please leave a voice mail if I don't pick up, No texts please. If you live in and around the East sussex area, come and view it, I'd prefer to be honest upfront. I have owned this vehicle since 1990... And was a daily used van for work. (Heating/plumbing engineer).

This van has loads of bills and paperwork to back up all of the work which has been done to it, (large folder of bills and paper work to go with van). And Haynes manual.
This has 2 keys and original owners manual from factory.
Please don't waste my time with silly offers, This van will be sold complete or stripped down for parts. would prefer to sell complete to a good home.
Steve Laidlaw"

Ebay: Bedford 300ZX Turbo Camper

I don't usually feature camper vans on this blog but here is a good exception. This Bedford may look like your typical camper van but when you open the hood you are surprised with a Nissan 300ZX Turbo engine! According to wikipedia, the VG30ET engine is a 3.0L V6 with a single Garrett T3 turbocharger producing 241 hp and 252 lb·ft. You push that through the Nissan manual 5-speed manual transmission and you have yourself a very fast camper van!

If you are familiar with the first generation Z31 300ZX, you will also notice the modified dashboard and steering wheel are a tell tale sign of whats going on under the van.A custom dog-house was made to fit the engine and a cup holder shelf tops it off. Because of the position of the gearbox, a long gear-shift lever made... I wonder how wacky shifting it will be? Also take a look at the pedals and the strange position they are in. This van needs some work but it certainly is a one of a kind.

"BEDFORD CF CAMPER VAN FITTED WITH NISSAN 300 ZX TURBO ENGINE AND GEAR BOX 5 SPEED MANUAL VERY FAST FOR A VAN SINGLE TURBO VERSION.TRANSIT POWER STEERING AND AXLE THE CAMPER NEEDS REFIT IN SIDE WILL NEED SUM WORK. HAS NO MOT BUT IT WOULD GET ONE MECHANICALLY SOUND FIBREGLASS WINGS AND BONNET ALL FLOOR IN CAB REPLACED WHEN ENGINE WAS FITTED DOORS REPAIRED AT BOTTOM ELECTRIC WINDOWS"
