ebay: 1985 Bedford CF2 Electric van - UK

"1985 Bedford CF electric van, used originally by NHS Trust as a minibus to move patients around site, hence the side facing seat. I am the 3rd owner and have owned the vehicle since November 1994. I ran it for approximately a year or so until the batteries failed and were removed. The vehicle has now been standing for over 20 years so will require restoring, including welding to the sill areas, wheel arches, valances, floor, step areas, doors, around the centre cowl and nearside rear upper door post. (The roof gutter is ok there). The battery tray will require attention, this comes out quite easily and as it is empty not a problem to move about.

I cannot fully asses the vehicle on the floor but In the main the chassis runners appear to be ok. There is some work required on the nearside front rail right at the front however. This is not an exact list, as with any restoration, but a guide to the level of work required. The back doors appear to be ok as do the bonnet and side door.

From past experience the van looks very restorable from what I can see.

It has the original motor, controller and dc/dc convertor fitted but will require all new batteries. Maybe an opportunity to fit modern cells?

When I used the van it drove well, with no gears or clutch and was quite quick off the mark. It handled well and was good in snow from what I remember due to the chunky tyre tread and low mounted battery pack. Controls are simple, Just a switch for forward and reverse and the option to turn re-generative braking on or off.

The interior is in good condition, considering the age, and the headlining is intact. The driver's seat base pad will need attention. The driver's seat box has also come away from the floor where the floor is corroded and will itself need attention.

The van has a diesel powered air heater for the van interior, this is similar to the cab heaters on lorries.

It runs from a small fuel tank connected to where the original fuel cap inlet on the body.

The vehicle has heavy duty suspension and the wheels fitted to the 4 x 4 and ambulance CFs. It has a GVW of 3500 kg. It carried one ton of lead/acid batteries under the floor leaving a payload of one ton, if I remember correctly.

The vehicle has covered 40,444 miles and when I used it was MOT and road tax exempt.

I also have a Chloride Spegal 108/30 charger and electric water trolley to go with it as well as some electronic spares. I also have some of the original documentation supplied with the vehicle including the Bedford Service Owner's Manual Supplement covering the Electric CF Van and operator's Wall chart with instruction on use. There is also a Lucas Chloride folder with some field operations bulletins.

Please remember before bidding this is a restoration project and will require removing on a trailer or recovery truck. It does roll ok and all the tyres are all inflated and hold air.

I can arrange delivery at extra cost should it be required. Viewing is strongly recommended.

Vehicle is located Alrewas near Lichfield, Staffs. DE13 7DD. Any questions please email or phone."
