"Electric Bedford CF2 Van for parts/spares - or a brave restoration!
Firstly, PLEASE NOTE this vehicle is in NORTHERN IRELAND, secondly please don't ask if it's petrol or diesel, nor if it's 4 speed or 5 speed - it's electric, one forward gear, one reverse gear!
Vehicle registered in 1986 in Northern Ireland and carries a Belfast registration from that year. It was owned by a local electricity company and used as a runabout within the grounds of a power station for approx 10 years. During this time it did just under 10,000 miles (only a few miles each day of its working life) after which is was sold to its 2nd owner who only wanted its batteries. The last 100 miles were recorded when it was towed to its new home, pushing the odometer just over the 10,000 mile mark. After removing the batteries the 2nd owner had stored it for a total of 25 years, the first half of this being under cover in a farm shed, the remainder being outside, hence it's current condition.
The 36 number, 6 volt batteries are long since gone. The 40kW Lucas CAV MT305 216volt electric motor is still in place and turns freely. The Lucas thyristor electronic controller also appears intact. The rear axle on these electric vans is a Salisbury 15HA, ratio 4.89:1, the rear springs are a single leaf semi-elliptical leaf spring. These are heavy duty springs, as also are the front coil springs as the GVW of these vans is 3,500kg (unlike the 2,500kg GVW of the standard CF250). This would make the springs ideal for a campervan. I also have the original Chloride Spegel 108/30 30amp battery charger which I might sell separately.
This is obviously most appealing as spares to anyone that already has one of these vans, or to anyone who would like to restore one. It suffers from rust and rot in all the usual CF areas, the worst of which are:-
drivers side door post, wheel arch and step top of drivers front wing rear lower quarter valence front valence and front bumper the rear doors and edge of floor
The front doors aren't too bad, the front wing/wheel arches are good, gutter is generally good, edges of roof good (but something's been set on top of it so currently pushed down). Other panels are generally ok. Because of the overall weight it uses the heavy duty steel rims found on ambulances and 4x4 CF's (2 currently on rear and 2 in van). I'm afraid I know absolutely nothing about electrics or electronics so I can't help with questions regarding the electrical components. To be clear, you'll not have this restored over the course of a weekend!
Presumably being electric these vans are exempt from the LEZ charges? I have the registration number for the vehicle, and the original green V5, and the VIN plates are still on the van! (By way of information Northern Ireland is part of the UK and our vehicles are registered with Swansea so it doesn't need "imported" to mainland UK).
This is a rare, 1 owner/user, 10,000 mile electric CF van and it would be nice if someone thought it was worth restoring but I accept that it's more likely to be used as a donor by someone to maintain another electric van. If you've any queries just ask (sensible questions please - not does it run & drive?). I bought it recently because it was local and I needed several parts from it for another (petrol) CF, which I've now removed and I'm open to offers, and will accept the highest genuine offer. It's considered to be sold only when the money's in my bank account, and it'll not be leaving my yard until I'm paid. It will need collected on a transporter but it rolls freely so can be winched onto the back of a lorry.
Thank you for your interest."
