"The Silkolene Transit had the 3-litre Essex V6 and was rumoured to be the last works-built V6 Transit built. It had Cortina Ghia front seats and could easily reach 70mph towing the rally car.
The Blydenstein CF had a big-valve 2.3-litre engine with a 5-speed ZF gearbox. It normally carried 30 wheels on the roof.
The Collins Cars Transit went a step further. It was powered by a 3528cc Rover V8 which had been a real problem to fit resulting in the modified front end of a scrapped Transit being welded on the rest of a second van. This installation had the benefit of the Rover 5-speed transmission and was more economical than the factory V6 Transit - 15mpg vs 12mpg. The only issue, appararently, was chronic instability over 110mph!
